Approximately 400 people were in attendance at the sold out event.  A second event was held the next day at Bay Head Yacht Club due to demand. “The one hour film and 200 page book were over two years in the making and contain hundreds of interviews as well as over a thousand names of champions and supporters from the last century.  There are histories of each of the 13 member yacht clubs, and many historical records and photographs as well as contemporary ones donated by local artists and photographers. The book and film are a beautiful tribute to the tradition of sailing on Barnegat Bay” said co-author Lara Walsh.

Brielle, NJ – America’s Cup sailor Gary Jobson appeared at Manasquan River Yacht Club in Brielle this past Sunday afternoon to kick off a film and book project which will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the BBYRA – Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association. The event was attended by the 14 member club Commodores and officers as well as local area sailors. Jobson, a native of Toms R…iver who is President of US SAILING, a former America’s Cup Sailor, author, and ESPN commentator, spent the day at Metedeconk River Yacht Club with a film crew interviewing six area sailors including former 1980 Olympic team member Henry Bossett and Pan Am Games medalist Jody Lutz.
Jobson will be interviewing local sailors and filming in the shore area over the next 2 years for the film project.  The film and commemorative book are expected to be completed in time for the centennial celebration in the summer of 2014. The project is a labor of love for Jobson who is passionate about sailing and wants to preserve the rich sailing history of the Barnegat Bay. Olympians, Two Rolex Yachtswomen, and several National and World Champions all learned to sail on the waters of Barnegat Bay and its tributaries.  “Sailing is a sport that connects the generations.  By understanding the past we can appreciate the present and prepare for the future.  Barnegat Bay is a magic place for sailing thanks in large part to our vibrant yacht clubs.  The 100th Anniversary of the BBYRA is perfect time to celebrate a century of sailing on the bay” said Jobson. A film trailer is expected to be released later this year.
